comment (0) Ok so The Vaccines were soooo fun!! I think I needed it haha they played a lot of stuff from their first two albums which was great! Cuz bands tend to play their new stuff for the exposure ya know and to keep it fresh, but I'm glad they played Teenage Icon (ughhhhh so good). Other than that, Cigarettes After Sex is sleep music please HAHA scrolled through my old blog posts and found this gem from 2016 me: Downloaded a buncha songs from the unlikely named "Cigarettes After Sex" and man, the intimate shoegaze-y soft indie lofi-ness of it all is so incredible and sleep-inducing. When you've been an insomniac like me for the past 2 weeks, they come as a pleasant surprise.
2016 me was right!! They are soo shoegazey haha had a lot of fun getting caught in the sudden rain and swishing the wet skirts of my poncho to their music and being dreamy. And at the end of it I was hungry and sleepy af ahahah.
It's the kind of music you listen to alone?? Not standing in a muddy (and I mean m u d d y) field with a thousand other kids. I was really annoyed by the girl in front of me who was tryna dance like it was some kind of club, and was totally out of sync with the music. UGH. No. Also I was fed up cuz her fake club dancing meant that she kept moving back into me and then i had try to avoid being in contact. UGH. Please find Pitchfork's definition of shoegaze / dreampop: Shoegaze is no different. It’s a particularly unusual genre in that its name describes neither a sound nor a connection to music history. This music is, above all else, a place to explore the outer limits of guitar texture. And emotionally, shoegaze turns its focus inward. The extreme noise eliminates the possibility of socializing while the music is playing, leaving each member of the audience alone with their thoughts. It’s music for dreaming.Not for "breaking it down like its hawt" or something. Idk, felt a bit claustrophobic at Neonlights haha and not a fan of the mud. And I forgot how many young kids went to these things and smoked and tried to be cool. Sigh. Honestly i need a dreampop shoegaze freak folk indie rock festival where people are just there for the music?? Thought the past few Hostess Weekender Festivals were really good at that!! They always brought in really solid line-ups. Like 5/5 of the acts they brought in were excellent. And the crowd was a mix of young and old too cuz they brought in the older more established and super famous indie bands, and the up-and-coming ones, with a great ticket price point. omg am i nostalgic. But anyway overall i really really enjoyed The Vaccines. And glad to have got a chance to catch C.A.S. too cuz im so cheap i couldn't bring myself to buy tickets to their individual concerts the last time they came to singapore hahaha. |
