emerald eyes

the cat he glares with baleful eyes.
emerald green, Jealousy's colour.
Safely hidden in the shadows,
right outside the generator room.

Flocks of girls in blue and white;
they descend upon the sidewalk.
Made of giggles and books, and holding food.
the cat he merely glares.

the human girls, they ignore him.
the cat he sits and stares;
he waits for someone to drop some food,
and waits for someone to leave.

the cat he reflects, as he sits:
who am i and what and why.
and then the answer comes to him:
a scavenger, and nothing more.
